German police to use
Frequentis’s LifeX
Frequentis has been selected by the police
in the German state of North Rhine-
Westphalia (NRW) to provide its multimedia
communication platform, 3020 LifeX, to
meet their requirements for future emergency
call and broadband radio communications.
e project is phase two of a control
room technology modernisation and
standardisation initiative. As part of this
work, NRW’s 50 police control centres
(approximately 400 operator working
positions) will be hosted in a virtual cloudbased
solution available in ve networked
technical centres across the region.
3020 LifeX will be used to provide e cient
emergency call-handling and operation on the
public safety digital radio network, as well as
interconnection between the two services.

Sweden’s cops pick
car terminal supplier
e Swedish police service has selected
Swedish Radio Supply as the continued
provider of vehicle terminals for use on the
country’s RAKEL TETRA network. e
contract will last for two years, with the
option for an additional extension across a
similar time period.
Swedish Radio Supply has been the main
supplier of TETRA terminals, support and
accessories since the Swedish police joined
RAKEL in 2006.
Speaking of the contract, Jonas Hoke,
senior business and customer manager at
the company, said: “We are so proud to be a
supplier to Sweden’s largest radio user. For us
it is an important acknowledgment that the
job we do is both appreciated and performed
professionally.”
e TETRA mobile terminal chosen to
ful l the agreement is the Sepura SRG3900.
AUSTRALASIA
Victoria police get
mobile with Motorola
Motorola Solutions has announced that it
has completed the roll-out of a new managed
mobile working service to Victoria Police in
Australia, two months ahead of the originally
intended schedule.
O cers across the state have been
personally issued with 9,398 mobile devices
(iPad minis and iPhones in rugged cases)
loaded with the iOS-native IRIS application
suite that allow them to query local and
national databases.
IRIS is also integrated with the ESTA
(Emergency Services Telecommunications
Authority) computer-aided dispatch
software, which is used by the state of Victoria’s
rst-responders.
According to Motorola, IRIS will eventually
allow o cers to le reports while operating
in the eld, using in-built voice-to-text
transcription capabilities.
