Several 5G-interested representative
associations, including 5G-PPP/5GIA,
5GAA and 5GACIA, came together
with other vertical market 3GPP Market
Representation Partners (MRPs),
including TCCA, in a workshop in
Brussels on 12-13 February. It attracted
more than 70 delegates from a variety of
sectors. The meeting was moderated by
Dr Colin Willcock, chairman of 5G-IA, and
Jean-Pierre Bienaime, secretary-general
of 5G-PPP.
The workshop sought to discuss and
agree ways forward for 3GPP MRPs
to: accelerate the creation of a 5G
verticals platform and consolidate 5G
vertical market requirements; engage
more actively and effectively in 3GPP
standards-making in future; and reach
consensus on key enabling technologies
and core standards having some
commonality between different vertical
marketapplications.
Participants applauded TCCA’s key
role in successfully promoting and driving
delivery of mission-critical standards,
such as the MCX series (MCPTT,
MCVideo and MCData) in 3GPP. Tony
Gray, TCCA chief executive, presented
on the lessons learned in the process of
TCCA becoming a 3GPP MRP and from
being engaged in the standardisation
process over the past ve years.
