WE WILL
MEET AGAIN
An awful lot has changed since our last issue of FAST went to press.
Indeed, even that seems like an understatement. There can’t be many
businesses in the country – indeed the world – that have not seen
seismic alterations to their operations over the last few months.
In my welcome to the previous issue, I looked forward to the Engineering
Solutions Live event at The National Motor Museum in Gaydon,
Warwickshire. In a market where events were being cancelled left, right and
centre, I’m happy to say this went ahead very successfully in March, with
hundreds of attendees, exhibitors and speakers coming together to discover
new products, customers and suppliers.
At the event, FAST Live was joined by Engineering Materials Live and
more recently PCB Design & Manufacturing Live. This year it also played host
to ‘Make Measurement Matter’, the UK’s only event dedicated to metrology
and precision measurement within the manufacturing sector, in association
with the GTMA.
As ever, the exhibition gave visitors access to the cream of the UK
fastening and adhesives industry both at their stands and in the technical
seminar sessions, which were CPD accredited, meaning attendees will earn
points towards their professional development.
In addition, as the event took place at the British Motor Museum in
Gaydon, Warwickshire, all attendees gained free access to the almost 300
vehicles and over a million automotive artefacts from Britain’s motoring
heritage.
Although only a couple of months ago, the exhibition has taken on a
slightly poignant tone, since exactly how long it will be before we’re able
to enjoy such an event again is another question, of course. The strong
likelihood is that restrictions of some sort will remain in place for some
time to come. Indeed, it already seems like a different world in which we
were able to congregate in that way (while of course still observing sensible
precautionary measures).
So yes, things have changed almost beyond recognition. However, it is
important for us to remember that nothing lasts forever – including this
pandemic. There will be a time when it becomes possible for events like
Engineering Solutions Live to take place again, allowing suppliers from across
the industry to come together and discuss
their technologies, services and swap
stories about what happened during the
pandemic.
It’s not an original sentiment to utter
during this extraordinary time, but it is
one that bears repeating: We will meet
again.
