Connector system
cuts assembly time
Machine builders can now
save up to 70% on framework
assembly time thanks to the
introduction of an all-new
profi le connector system
from Aldershot-based FATH
Components. The news is
likely to be welcomed by all
framework users because
according to FATH UK
Managing Director David
Hayes “The new connector
design is set to transform
assembly times from here on”.
Called Alu Connection Angles
M, FATH’s new range has
been shown to help users
effect substantial time savings
in the assembly of most
typical machine frameworks.
How so? It is attributable to a
combination of clever design
and the innovative use of
magnet technology in its new
connector block.
Now, with the need to handle
separate parts like T-nuts and
locking screws a thing of the
past, users only need a single
tool to construct an entire
aluminium section framework
in (quite literally in some cases)
double-quick time.
Additionally, the design of
the Alu Connection Angles
M means that where used,
they also act as reinforcement
for corner joints, allowing
higher moment loads to be
accommodated without the
need (and cost) for extra
machining of the profi les.

EPOXY OFFERS CHEMICAL
AND HEAT RESISTANCE
Master Bond EP35SP is a twopart
epoxy system for bonding
and sealing applications,
providing resistance to many
chemicals such as oils, acids,
bases, water, fuels, and
especially petrochemicals.
It features both a high glass
transition temperature (Tg) and
a broad service temperature
range. Its Tg measures 215-
220°C and its serviceability
extends from -62°C to
+288°C (-80°F to 550°F).
EP35SP has notable
dielectric properties with a
dielectric constant of 4.5 at
60 Hz and a volume resistivity
greater than 1014 ohm-cm. It
bonds well to a wide array
of substrates including metals,
several plastics, ceramics,
glass and composites. Upon
curing, this system offers
low shrinkage and good
dimensional stability.
EP35SP has a paste
viscosity, with little to no
fl ow, and can be applied
on vertical surfaces. The mix
ratio is an easy to use 100
to 50 by weight. The system
has a long working life of
24 to 48 hours. For optimal
properties, the recommended
cure schedule is 1 hour at
110°C followed by 2-3 hours
at 125-150°C, plus a post
aerospace, electronic,
optical and specialty OEM
applications.

Engineering adhesives
manufacturer, Henkel, whose
brands include Loctite,
Teroson and Bonderite, has
introduced new packaging
to thwart those who seek
to imitate their products.
As recently as December
2019, 103 people were
arrested in China after forged
Loctite adhesives, valued at
£5.5m, were seized. The
ramifi cations are far reaching
as there was clear potential
for the inferior products to
cause severe and costly
damage in the
fi eld.
In the case of
a threadlocking
adhesive, for
example, the
outcome
could be
catastrophic.
If the
counterfeit
product was
used to lock
a threaded
assembly in a piece of
equipment that is operation
critical and the mechanism
failed, the cost saving would
pale into insignifi cance
when considered against
potential production losses,
reputational damage.
To assure its customers
that the product they
are buying is indeed
the real thing, Henkel
has taken important
anti-counterfeiting
steps. The fi rst is
the introduction of a new,
patented bottle design that
is very hard to replicate. It
has distinctive shoulder and
foot rims, whose edges are
textured, and the Loctite name
and logo is recessed in the
shoulder moulding.
The new packaging and
coding is being introduced
across the entire Loctite range.
