Flexpress embellishes with the
UK’s first DuSense Digi Foiler.
“We already do traditional and digital foiling but raised foiling is brand new
and quite literally adds a new dimension....we’re optimistic it will open some
doors into new clients for us and help our existing clients offer something a
bit more exciting.”

ECO SIGNS CHARTLEY COFFEE
Eco Signs has installed an EFI Vutek 32h hybrid printer in a bid
to improve its sustainability and productivity. Installed in
February, the machine is Swindon-based Eco Signs’ third EFI
buy in two years following on from a Vutek LX3 Pro hybrid LED
inkjet printer. The 32h combines flatbed and roll-to-roll printing. A
3.2m-wide system, a variety of its
features will allow the firm to speed
up production and increase its green
credentials. Company president Phil
Thompson said: “Over the past two
years, we have been stepping up our
production facility due to ever
demanding and increasingly tighter
deadlines.”
Chartley Coffee has installed the UK’s first MVZ digital packaging
printer from Rigoli to enhance its in-house packaging
production. The Hixon, Staffordshire-based coffee supplier
moved to on-site printing with the arrival of the new MVZ1000
roll-to-roll system, developed by Italian manufacturer Rigoli. It was
supplied by UK reseller Reprocad. The 1m-wide system will support the
production of flexible packaging for
Chartley, as well as personalised shortrun
promotional packs. Managing
director Owain Antcliff said: “This
functionality means we can offer a wider
range of solutions for our customers
and enable us to be more responsive
and add value to our offering.”
Protect Signs has installed a Mimaki JFX200-2513 EX flatbed
printer and an Esko Kongsberg X24 digital cutting table to
improve its safety signs services and move into commercial
territory. Both machines were installed by CMYUK at the
Weston-super-Mare outfit in February, embellishing a broad range of
equipment for metal fabrication, CNC routing and high-frequency plastic
welding. Owner David Lundy said: “We’re
moving towards the more commercial
sector. Investing in new technologies
ensures we stay ahead of the game; it helps
in the development of new products and
production techniques, while bringing with
it the benefits of lean manufacturing and
increased productivity.”
Trade finisher Kaps Finishing has
taken on a Yotta YD-F2513R5 wideformat
flatbed printer to enable its
trade litho customers to use the firm
as a one-stop shop for both their finishing and
wide-format print requirements. Director Jack
Thompson said: “All of our customers are litho
printers and we noticed that none of them do
in-house large-format work.” The Basildon,
Essex-based firm’s £38,000, 2.5x1.3m machine,
which prints onto materials including Correx,
Foamex, Dibond and vinyls, was supplied by
Repro Sales & Repairs. The company’s finishing
services include B1 die-cutting, B2 laminating,
remoist gluing, tipping on, wire-binding,
shrinkwrapping, drilling and hand finishing.
Macro Art has secured £3.3m in
additional working capital after
proving its continued growth
following an MBO in 2014. The St
Neots-based wide-format printer was sold to a
team comprising then-managing director
James Jennings, then-commercial director
Michael Green and sales director Matthew
Guise, with backing from YFM Equity Partners.
With Green now at the helm, Independent
Growth Finance (IGF) has supplied a further
seven-figure sum of capital after outgrowing its
initial funding. It now employs more than 100
members of staff and has pushed its turnover
from £6m to £14m since the MBO. The finance
was secured prior to the coronavirus lockdown.
Aztec Signs has taken on an EFI
Vutek h3 hybrid LED printer to
increase capacity and quality in its
output. Brought to the Leeds-based
company’s site in February, the new system
replaced on older Vutek GS 3250 and will run
alongside an Esko X-44 digital cutting table that
was installed 18 months ago. The 3.2m-wide
system was supplied by Shrewsbury-based
reseller CMYUK and has been in Aztec’s sights
since Fespa 2018 in Berlin. The belt-driven superwide
printer features 10-channels and three rows
of Ricoh Gen 5 printheads. Originally founded in
Wilton’s sitting room in 1988, Aztec Signs is now
an eight-strong business housed in 1,670sqm
premises on the outskirts of Leeds city centre.
Eight Days a Week Print Solutions has installed a Xerox Baltoro
inkjet press to boost its firepower and enable it to bring some
litho work back in house. The machine was installed at the
Nottingham firm’s 1,070sqm-site in March. It replaced a Xerox
iGen4 Diamond Edition. Managing director Lance Hill said: “It was a pretty
obvious fit to where we were on our journey. It’s a cutsheet machine that
gives us more firepower, but without going into the continuous-feed
market.” The 300ppm A4
duplex Baltoro uses High
Fusion inks through W-series
inkjet heads for print
resolution up to 1,200dpi
without the need for primers
or precoats.
