JO’S HELP LINE
Apple Binding was formed in
1994 by Kate and Jon Luke. As
Kate explains: “We were always
looking for a business
opportunity. Jon was a
commercial diver and I was a
print rep. I needed to get a book
Wire-O bound and I had to wait
six weeks to get the book
finished. I thought there may
have been a hole in the market.
So we did a little research, and
decided to have a go.” The
couple originally rented an old
apple store in the middle of a
field. “Hence the name Apple
Binding.” They bought an old
James Burn hand punch and
binder, and things progressed
from there. The business
continues to operate during the
Covid-19 pandemic and is open
for essential work, and becomes
the first “60 seconds with”
business to depict its team social
distancing at work.
